Remote Linux Administration Services

Remote Linux Administration Services Available

Services that are offered for Linux server work include any of the following:

Software Application Instalation Security Asessments Network Design Consulting
Server Application Troubleshooting Server Installations Server Maintenance

These remote Linux administration services are billed for in two different ways:

Hourly: For work that involves multiple tasks, that are difficult to give a quote on.

Flat Rate: For work that involves a single task (such as installing a piece of software), or work that is easier to give a flat rated quote on.

Many of my clients prefer flat rated work when they are new clients (it is hard to tell how long it takes a Linux Administrator to fix a certain problem, when you are not familiar with their skill level). However, many of my clients also decide to switch to hourly billing, since it does make the process of working on their server easier for them (I don't have to quote them before each project, and wait for a reply back that a quote is acceptable). Here is an example of some common services that are flat rated (always contact me for a quote, though!).

Installation of a single software application: $75-$100
Linux server hardening, and firewall installation: $50-$75
Installation of an application server (Jakarta, Ant, etc): $100
Web Server migration (up to three domains, including DNS): $150

If I am working on a project based on an hourly rate, my rate is often $55/hour. This can vary depending on the project (large server setups are typically the exception here, where the hourly rate may be lower), but for most projects the rate of $55/hour applies.

Linux Community Projects

In addition to providing remote Linux server support at a cost, I have also contributed to the Linux community by writing tutorials, and writing software that solves common Linux administrator headaches.
